This label didn't score any big hits – and yet it was pioneering. For rockabilly and other related sounds, there's no getting around 311 East Indian School Road in Phoenix, Arizona. This was the headquarters of Viv, the label founded by Lee Hazlewood. It was the place where he made his first recordings. Also Mirriam Johnson made here her first recordings. She was first married to Duane Eddy and then to Waylon Jennings. Later on she became renowned as Jessi 'I'm Not Lisa' Colter. Her early songs can be heard here.

As money was in short supply from the start, the recordings were made under very poor conditions at the garage in Indian School Road – with very impressive results, though. Soon after this Hazlewood sold the label to Loy Clingman from Williams, Arizona, who originally had been under contract as an artist.

In any case, the label produced a number of raw uncut rockabilly songs, which are now exclusively available to the fans through the big download platforms in the best digital quality. Here's some songs which are worth discovering: Benny Banta's Cry Little Girlie, a nice weird teenage drama, Loy Clingman's Rockin' Down Mexico Way, which remained largely unnoticed as a B-side in 1958, or Jimmy Johnson's cool rockabilly masterpiece Cat Daddy.
